Mental Hacks of Successful People

1.Goals Vs Systems:

(Mental Hacks of Successful People)

Losers have Goals and Winners have systems

Scot Adams ,the famous Comic Strip writer and creator of the Dilbert comic strip

Scot puts forward the importance of the Systems in life Vs the rush to achieve the goals. This involves choosing projects and habits that, even if they result in “failures” in the eyes of the outside world ,gives you transferable skills on the relationships. In simpler words, you choose options that allow you to inevitably “succeed” over time, as you build assets that carryover to your next projects in life.

Fundamentally, “systems” could be thought of as asking yourself ,

What persistent skills and relationships can I develop?

versus

“What short term goal can I achieve? “

The former has a potent snowball effect ,while the later is a binary pass/fail with no consolation prize.

Scot writes on this so beautifully in his book How to fail at almost Everything and still win big: Kind of the story of my life.

2.Employ Affirmations:

(Mental Hacks of Successful People)

In Scot Adams words as he states in the book Tools of the Titans by Tim Ferris.

Affirmations work like this:

“All you do is you pick a goal and you write it down 15 times in your specific sentence form, I want to become an astronaut for example – And you do that every day.”

Then it will seem as if the universe just starts spitting up opportunities.

It will look to you like these are coincidences ,and whether they are or not is less relevant than the fact that they seem to pop up.

Basically human brain isn’t capable of processing everything in its environment, or even coming close. So the best it can process is to set up these little filters where you always hear what the filters are set to. And the way it sets filters is by what you pay attention to. Its what you spend your maximum energy upon……That’s how you set your filter. By default your brain filter is set to your name as that’s what matters most to you.

Similarly ,you can use affirmations to focus your mind and your memory to very specific things .And this would allow to to notice things in your environment that might have already been there. Its just your brain filter was set to ignore which you have re-tuned now through memory and repetition trick until it widens and accepts few more stuff in.

The above definitely now makes sense from the science point of view.

3.Morning flooding -Listen to the Body instead of the mind:

(Mental Hacks of Successful People )

There is a process where once you clear your mind ,you have to flood it with fresh input of ideas that are different to the old ones you had.

In this flood of new input of ideas you have to find out that little thing that you want to work with .This is where comes in the Body Model.

The model is :

Your brain can’t find good contact by itself directly. The brain is always involved with the flow of the ideas and they flow through your head all over. You can monitor your body but not your mind. And when you change your body ,there is some thing you are changing with the set of the emotions in your mind.

Tony Robbins propagates here strongly and practices every day Cold water shower to create within him the rush of Adrenaline, motivation and flood in set of new emotions.

4.Diversification for Stress management:

(Mental Hacks of Successful People )

Diversification plays a very important role in the management of the stress what we get in our daily lives.

A lot of it is how you look at the world, but most of it is really the process of diversification. You are not going to worry about loosing a friend as much if you have them in hundreds than if you would had them only two. You would not worry of loosing your job if you have few more waiting for you any time.

One of the ways to not worry about stress is to eliminate it.

Diversification works in almost every area of your life…..

5.The Double or Triple threat:

( Mental Hacks of Successful People )

Successful people use this mantra very often to keep them moving forward on the road to success.

If you want an average ,successful life ,its does not take much planning ,Just stay out of trouble, go to school and apply for jobs you might like. But if you want some thing extra ordinary, you have two paths.

1) Become the best at one specific thing.

2) Become very good (top 25%) at two or more things.

The first strategy is difficult to the point of near impossibility. Few will ever play in the NBA or make a platinum album or become the world class leaders. Successful do not recommend this.

The second strategy is fairly easy .Every one has at least a few areas in which they could be in the top 25% with some effort .Anyone can do this with practice.

Capitalism rewards things that are both rare and valuable. You make your self rare by combining two or more “pretty goods “until no one else has your mix.

This sounds like generic advice ,but you would be hard- pressed to find any successful person who didn’t have about three skills in the top 25%
